Oberstleutnant Ferdinand Homberth

Oberstleutnant Ferdinand Homberth photographed sometime between his 1908 promotion to lieutenant colonel and his retirement in 1910. Oberstleutnant Homberth commanded  the 1st Division of Feldkananonregiment Nr.18. Clearly visible amongst his medal grouping are his two Bronze Military Merit Medals (Signum Laudis), one on the ribbon of the Military Merit Cross awarded in 1878 and a further award with the red ribbon for service. Oberst Homberth was recalled to service during the First World War and was awarded the Military Merit Cross with war decoration in October 1915 whilst serving on the staff of the 5th Army rear area command. He died in December 1917.
